Three orchestral works inspired by masterpieces of art create a visual and aural feast.
Charles Burchfield – born in Northeast Ohio and trained at the Cleveland School of Art – painted impassioned, surreal and ecstatic scenes. Matthias Grünewald’s Renaissance triptych on themes of temptation and healing, the Isenheim Altarpiece, inspired Hindemith’s gorgeous masterpiece. And Mussorgsky’s justified fame is represented by his most celebrated work, Pictures at an Exhibition.
