New York Times bestselling authors Michael Roizen, MD, and Michael Greger, MD, will be the keynote speakers at the second annual Wayside Wellness Fair on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2018 at the Akron Civic Theatre. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., the fair will feature free healthful food and beverage samples, free health screenings, more than 25 wellness booths and a series of wellness presentations on stage.

Wayside Wellness Fair is sponsored by Wayside Furniture and is presented in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic Akron General and the Akron Civic Theatre. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required and can be picked up at the following locations beginning Wednesday, Aug. 1:

At 11:00 a.m., Cleveland Clinic Chief Wellness Officer Michael Roizen, MD, will present his talk, “How to Keep Your Brain Young,” and then take questions from the audience and sign books. Dr. Roizen has published a series of highly popular #1 New York Times bestsellers: YOU: The Owner’s Manual; YOU: On A Diet; and YOU: Staying Young, all co-authored with Dr. Mehmet Oz. He co-founded RealAge Inc., and his first general-audience book, RealAge: Are You as Young as You Can Be?, became a New York Times #1 bestseller. His most recent book, published in 2016, is This Is Your Do-Over: The Seven Secrets to Losing Weight, Living Longer, and Getting A Second Chance at the Life You Want.

At 2:30 p.m., Michael Greger, MD, will talk about “How Not to Die: The Role of Diet in Preventing, Arresting and Reversing Our Top 15 Killers,” then take questions from the audience and sign books. A founding member and Fellow of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine and the founder of NutritionFacts.org, Dr. Greger is a physician, New York Times bestselling author and internationally recognized speaker on nutrition, food safety and public health issues. He has lectured at the Conference on World Affairs, testified before Congress and was invited as an expert witness in the defense of Oprah Winfrey in the infamous “meat defamation” trial. In addition to talks by Dr. Roizen and Dr. Greger, the Wellness Speakers’ Stage will feature community presenters on a variety of wellness topics:

• 10:30 a.m. “You Are Only Old Once!” Dr. Deborah S. Plate, Cleveland Clinic Akron General Center for Family Medicine

• 12:30 p.m. An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure: Key Learnings on How to Get Healthy and Stay Healthy Abraham Nabors, Director of Education & Standards, Mustard Seed Market & Café

• 1:00 p.m. Yoga: The Time is Now Tracy Rhinehart, Yoga Bliss, YOGAkron 108, Elevate Akron

• 1:30 p.m. Well at Home: Your Home Safety Checklist Robin Valatka, Coordinator, Trauma in Injury Prevention, Outreach and Education, Cleveland Clinic Akron General

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 pm, Wayside Wellness Fair will feature free healthful food and beverage samples, free health screenings and wellness booths.

• Cleveland Clinic Akron General will offer free blood pressure screenings and osteoporosis evaluations as well as cholesterol and glucose screenings; all costs will be covered by Wayside Furniture, which encourages as many people as possible to take advantage of the opportunity. The University of Akron Audiology and Speech Center will offer free hearing assessments.

• New this year, the event will feature a bounty of free healthful food and beverage samples. Mustard Seed Market & Café, Miss Julie’s Kitchen and CoreLife Eatery will provide a variety of samples at their booths, and the Akron Civic Theatre will offer samples of smoothies and juices.

• Booth participants will include Akron Area YMCA, Akron Children’s Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association of East Ohio Area Chapter, Cleveland Clinic Akron General, Cleveland Seed Bank, Cleveland MetroParks, Countryside Conservancy, Crown Point Ecology Center, Pamela Neitenbach, LMT, HHP, Summit County Public Health, The University of Akron Audiology and Speech Center, the Wayside Furniture Better Sleep Center and YOGA Bliss.
