St. Petersburg Philharmonic with pianist Nikolai Lugansky

St. Petersburg Philharmonic with pianist Nikolai Lugansky

Presented by Tuesday Musical Association at EJ Thomas Performing Arts Hall - University of Akron

Russia’s oldest symphony orchestra will fill EJ Thomas Hall with its soul-stirring signature sound. “We play with our hearts,” says concertmaster Lev Klychkov. Formed in 1882, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic was initially known as the “Imperial Music Choir” and performed privately for the court of Alexander III of Russia. Richard Strauss conducted it in 1912. The Guardian of London has declared the St. Petersburg Philharmonic as “probably the world’s greatest orchestra.” Featuring piano soloist Nikolai Lugansky, this is also Tuesday Musical’s annual Margaret Baxtresser Piano Concert.
