I Love You Because is a modern twist on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, set in New York City. A young, uptight greeting-card writer’s life is changed when he meets a flighty photographer. Along with their eccentric friends and siblings, they learn to love each other not in spite of their faults, but because of them.

I Love You Because was first presented at the National Alliance for Musical Theatre Festival of New Musicals in 2005. The production then opened at the off-Broadway Village Theatre in New York City on Feb. 14, 2006, and played through May 21, 2006, earning lyricist Ryan Cunningham a Drama Desk Award nomination for his lyrics. In the years since its New York debut, I Love You Because has been produced at numerous regional theaters across the United States as well as in Canada, England and Australia.
