STORY FOR SEPTEMBER:
‘The Copy-Cat’ by Mary E. Wilkins Freeman
Mary E. Wilkins Freeman, an American short story writer, novelist, playwright, and poet, is most known for her stories, ‘The Revolt of Mother’ and ‘A New England Nun.’
‘The Copy-Cat’ is a realistic look into the post-Civil War New England life of a group of shool-age children. It tells the story of Amelia, the titular character, who resorts to copying a fellow student while in the midst of her own journey to self-discovery. A typical strength of Freeman, the story focuses on the psychology of the characters, especially the adults, of ‘Copy-Cat.’
