Electric Pressure Cooker Cabaret 31: The Bee's Knees

Presented by Wandering Aesthetics at Unknown

The AWARD-WINNING Electric Pressure Cooker Cabaret is wandering to a brand new location in West Hill – Hive Mind – for another month of “ANYTHING GOES” entertainment!

Through humble beginnings in the basement of a Highland Square flower shop, the #EPCooker is an artist driven event that sees over 100 audience members, 20+ performances and 6 non-stop hours of art.

Doors open and registration for performers begins at 7:30 pm. Performances begin between 8:00 – 8:30 pm. Anyone – from beginner to pro – may sign up for a 12-minute slot. Performers may pre-register at epcooker.com.

An emcee, house drum kit, keyboard, lighting and sound system (with operators) are provided. This month’s emcee: Performer, Improviser & Mother: Jennifer Betz

ALL varieties of acts are encouraged to perform. Previous acts have included: monologues, acoustic musicians, comedians, feats of strength, play readings, experimental art, dancers, burlesqu, scenes from plays, improvisation, devised work, full rock bands and performance artists. But the sky is the limit; no art is too taboo for the #EPCooker!

ALL levels – from beginner to the most experienced – are encouraged to perform. Those under 18 are permitted to attend (and perform!) with adult supervision.

The #EPCooker is not just an Open Mic. It is an open and welcoming community of artists. It is also a great networking event, a great place to improve stage presence and a great place to develop as an artist. Storyteller Kyle Jozsa, Comedian Sarah Jones, Just Go With It Improv Comedy Troupe, Copper Pennies and many other acts premiered at the #EPCooker.

There will be wine, water and pizza available at Hive Mind. All other outside food and beverages are also permitted.

ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TO:

Helping Wandering Aesthetics reach our Year Two match for The Electric Pressure Cooker… presents Bigger than a Breadbox, as well as towards paying the #EPCooker team members in order to maintain this vibrant community event.

After successfully reaching our Year One match – in large part thanks to the #EPCooker Community – Wandering Aesthetics has started the fundraising process for Year Two of Bigger Than A Breadbox. Bigger Than A Breadbox – launching this fall – is one of the 27 winners of the of the 2015 John S. and James L. Knight Foundation’s Knight Arts Challenge Akron. #AkronBreadbox needs to raise $75,000 in matching funds over two years – but only $37,500 over the next 14 months.

ABOUT THE EMCEE:

Jennifer Betz performs improv with Point of No Return Improv in Cuyahoga Falls along with the River Side Valley Players in Chagrin Falls. She choreographs, and occasionally performs, for local theatre productions, is working with Gum-Dip Theatre on their current show called ‘Namaste What?’, and likes to take a smidge of credit in the upbringing of her amazing daughter, McCartney. In her “spare” time, she loves open mics and is always looking for anyone willing to play an instrument while she makes up songs.
