Art Opening - m coy

Presented by Kent State University School of Art at Downtown Gallery - Kent State

The School of Art Collection and Galleries and the School of Art at Kent State University present an exhibition of recent work by local artist, m coy at the Downtown Gallery in Kent. Join us for the opening reception of “m – current works: a selection of art by m coy” on Thursday, January 18 from 5-7 pm at the Downtown Gallery (141 E. Main Street). The exhibition will be on view through February 17, 2018. The exhibition and reception are free and open to the public.

Coy uses simple tools when creating his work; brightly colored paints, razor blades, and a spray gun. His paintings created on circular or square smooth plastic panels, which are presented individually and in groupings. In a statement, m coy says, “The imagery in my work varies, but in general I work in objects, icons, and symbols, with a style that is loose, quick, and energetic. Through these images I am seeking to capture the essence of the emotions that I am feeling at the moment. My stylistic influences are all across the board. Impressionist, abstract expressionist and pop artist share equal influence – as does the art of cartoonist, illustrators and graphic artists. I have drawn from and mixed all of these influences into my own personal style.” Coy holds his B.F.A. in Painting/Printing from Northern Illinois University and has exhibited work nationally and throughout the state of Ohio.
