Brad Vetter: Myers Residency Lecture

Presented by Mary Schiller Myers School of Art: The University of Akron at Mary Schiller Myers School of Art: The University of Akron

Letterpress (best described by Jim Sheradden of Hatch Show Print) is simply “Letters pressed into paper with ink in between”. This centuries old printing process revolutionized the way we as humans communicate—putting words(and power) into the hands of the people.

People all over the world are waking up—once again—to the idea of letterpress printing and the voice it gives us. We dig past the “ye olde” novelty in a search for some context, an aesthetic, or techniques that makes this antique form of printing relevant in today’s culture.

With a little humor and some super colorful posters, Brad Vetter will discuss his journey in finding out what it means to be a contemporary letterpress printer.
