Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Presented by Weathervane Playhouse at Weathervane Playhouse

THE RETURN OF A WEATHERVANE HOLIDAY CLASSIC!

Joseph, his father’s favorite son, is a boy blessed with prophetic dreams. When he is sold into slavery by his jealous brothers and taken to Egypt, Joseph endures a series of adventures in which his spirit and humanity are continually challenged. He is purchased by Potiphar — but then he finds that thwarting romantic advances from Potiphar’s wife lands him in jail! When news of Joseph’s gift to interpret dreams reaches the Pharaoh (wryly and riotously depicted as a rock star!), Joseph is well on his way to becoming second in command.

Eventually, his brothers, having suffered greatly, unknowingly find themselves groveling at the feet of the brother they betrayed but no longer recognize. After testing their integrity, Joseph reveals himself leading to a heartfelt reconciliation of the sons of Israel. Set to an engaging cornucopia of musical styles, from country-western and calypso to bubble-gum pop and rock ‘n’ roll, this Old Testament tale emerges both timely and timeless.

Back by popular demand on the Weathervane Playhouse stage, it is no exaggeration to say that Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has become an Akron holiday-season tradition!

As in previous years’ productions of the musical, the 2018 production will also employ the use of a youth chorus. Students from local schools will perform in rotation with the young actors in Weathervane’s production. Please see this year’s schedule of youth choruses on the right side of this page.

• Cool facts about this show: Since 1972, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat has had four major productions in London’s West End theater district and two on Broadway in New York City – in addition to numerous national touring productions in the United Kingdom, the United States and in international locales. The show’s licensing agent, the Rodgers & Hammerstein Organization, estimates that more than 20,000 productions have been staged over the years by schools and amateur-theater groups.

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is presented through special arrangement with The Musical Company. All authorized performance materials are also supplied by The Musical Company.

“WHEN PERFORMANCES ARE SOLD OUT,
CAN PEOPLE GET THEIR NAMES ON A WAITING LIST FOR TICKETS?”

Beginning one hour before the performance, the Box Office takes names for a stand-by list.

Those who wish to be on the stand-by list must be present beginning one hour before the performance.

Sometimes, during the last hour before a sold-out performance, ticket holders “turn back” tickets to the Box Office if they cannot use all of their tickets.

If any tickets are turned back to the box office in the hour leading up to the performance, we will re-sell these tickets to those people whose names are on the stand-by list for that performance.

The stand-by list is NOT a guarantee that you will see the show. The Box Office cannot predict with any accuracy whether any tickets will become available for purchase during this last hour leading up to the performance.
