Library service to the Northfield and Macedonia area began in 1934 with a community library housed in a local school.
The Akron Public Library began bookmobile service to the Nordonia Hills area in 1946.In August of 1954, the Akron Public Library signed an agreement with the Northfield Community Library, then housed in the Palmer House, to provide library service to the area. The original Northfield Branch Library opened at its present location in 1964. At that time the 5,500 square foot building cost $183,187.64 for site, building and furnishings.
In September, 1990, the name was changed to Nordonia Hills Branch to reflect the four areas served by the library – Northfield Center, Northfield Village, Sagamore Hills and Macedonia. The current 12,000 square foot library building was opened in the summer of 1999. Current library statistics show that Nordonia Hills Branch circulated 417,099 items in 2013, houses a collection of 72,070 items,and has 21,489 registered borrowers.
