Tuesday Musical is an anchor arts organization in Akron and one of the oldest and most-respected organizations of its kind in the United States. Founded in 1887, Tuesday Musical presents concerts by the world’s best classical musicians as well as vibrant education and community engagement programs.

On stage and throughout the community, Tuesday Musical is enticing and engaging generations of music lovers by bringing the world’s best music to Greater Akron and Northeast Ohio.

Presenting Concerts by the World’s Best

Akron’s Tuesday Musical presents three concert series each season, all with related Education and Community Engagement activities:

  1. MainStage concerts — six each season — feature the world’s best classical musicians. Most of these happen at EJ Thomas Hall in Akron and include “Concert Conversations” with the guest artists to inform and engage our audiences.
  2. FUZE concerts — three each season — engage traditional and new audiences in unexpected ways and venues.
  3. Decompression Chamber brings free chamber music concerts to employees and clients at high-stress sites throughout the city — hospitals, financial institutions, government offices, factories, social service agencies, etc. Research shows that classical music can decrease stress, boost brain function, improve productivity, increase physical performance, and sharpen memory.

Engaging Our Community

In tandem with its concerts, Tuesday Musical present meaningful education/community engagement activities that expand access to world-class musicians for students and adults throughout the region.

These activities include teaching residencies, master classes, workshops, Q&As and other presentations at universities and K-12 schools; mini-performances throughout the community at such venues as retirement residences, schools and libraries; free tickets for all students; busing support for student groups; school-day open-observation rehearsals for students; pre-concert talks/interviews; arts-integration workshops for educators; monthly programs/concerts for members; an annual scholarship competition for college/universities students pursuing careers as music educators and/or performers; Brahms Allegro junior music club for young musicians; and much more.
