​The University of Akron’s ​Art Bomb Brigade​ is seeking applications for its first ever arts apprenticeship. The mural project started by University of Akron faculty, Elisa Gargarella and Marissa McClellan, have contributed 19 murals to the greater Akron area since its inception in June 2016.

The Art Bomb Apprenticeship program will provide support for a local apprentice to work with master Arts Administrators and Educators to build understanding and proficiency in public arts education, administration, and implementation.

Apprentices must be current students or alumni of The University of Akron. Apprentice applicants should demonstrate an interest and competency in 2-D and/or graphic design, art education or arts management prior to the apprenticeship, strong motivation to learn the nuances of the tradition of making and implementing Public Art, and a commitment to carry the tradition on in the future.

A ​$2000 annual stipend plus a minimum of 50 hours of direct instruction from Art Bomb staff will be provided. Additional hours of service to the Art Bomb Brigade may include artist assistance, art making, social media management, media content development, public relations work, grant research, special events, private consultations, email monitoring, weekly staff meetings and other tasks as needed or appropriate. Flexible time commitment ​will typically not exceed 5 hours per week unless engaging in special events or mural projects.
