Cleveland Play House (CPH) is casting children ages 7-12, of all races and ethnicities, for its production of A Christmas Story, directed by John McCluggage. All positions are paid. Auditions are by appointment only.

For BOYS AND GIRLS: Auditions will be held FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 9th from 5:30pm-8:30-pm & SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10th from 10:00am-2:00pm.

FINAL CALLBACKS: will be held on SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 10th from 3:00pm-6:00p.m.

Auditions will take place in CPH’s rehearsal spaces, located on the fifth floor of the Middough Building, at 1901 E. 13th Street in Downtown Cleveland. Performers will audition with sides from the script, which will be sent when an appointment is set. Please note that children who will be 13 or older on 12/23/16 are ineligible to audition.

Rehearsals begin on Tuesday, November 1st, and will be held after school and on weekends, Tuesday-Sunday. The week of November 21st rehearsals will be during school hours. There will be no rehearsal on Thanksgiving Day. Performances are 8 shows a week from Nov. 25th - Dec. 23rd. Children will miss part or all of nine school days for rehearsal and performances.

Characters:

Ralphie – (9-12) Obsessed with planting the seeds to assure the ultimate Christmas present: a genuine Red Ryder BB gun. Has a wild imagination, is unsure of his feelings for Esther Jane, and is persistent, curious, and dramatic.
Flick – (9-12, any race/ethnicity) One of Ralphie’s best friends. A follower who is easy to pick on. Can’t resist the triple dog dare and gets his tongue stuck to a lamppost. Has a sore arm. Also plays a Desperado.
Schwartz – (9-12, any race/ethnicity) Another of Ralphie’s buddies. He likes trouble. He’s a little more on the ball than Flick and gets him to do things he probably shouldn’t. Also plays a Desperado.
Esther Jane –(9-12, any race/ethnicity) Has a crush on Ralphie. Sweet, girly and likeable. Best friends with Helen.
Helen – (9-12, any race/ethnicity) Smartest girl in class. Likes to talk politics and gossip. Best friends with Esther Jane.
Randy – (7-10) Ralphie’s mischievous little brother who has a true fascination with Santa. Has to use the restroom at inopportune times. Ability to focus and to be still a plus.
