To celebrate Oatey Company’s new world headquarters building, Oatey Co. seeks a creative artist or team to propose a unique art installation (mural or sculpture) to be installed on a prominent wall in the lobby of the Oatey Co. world headquarters.
This is an open Request for Proposals (RFP) from established creative professionals based anywhere in Northeast Ohio who are interested in a highly visible corporate lobby art project. Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of professionals and employees. The Selection Committee will review each proposal for the following:
1. Statement of interest in the project
2. Understanding of project goals
3. Relevant experience
4. Artistic elements in work samples
5. Demonstrated ability – either directly or through collaboration – to carry design concepts (process to final product) and project management
The Committee will select three proposals for final selection process.
The project site located at 20600 Emerald Parkway, Cleveland, OH 44135, near Grayton Road and I-480 on Cleveland’s Westside.
Oatey Co. is a 100-year-old Cleveland-based manufacturer and distributor of plumbing and related products. It employees roughly 800 people globally and has manufacturing facilities or sales offices in the United States, Canada, China, India and Latin America.
I. Project Name: Oatey Co. Headquarters General Entrance Main Lobby Art Project
II. Commissioning Organization: Oatey Co.
III. Eligibility: Open to professional and emerging artists (including teams of artists from multiple disciplines) residing in northeast Ohio.
IV. Submittal Deadline: April 18, 2016
V. Budget: There is no established budget at this time. We are looking to the artist to propose a piece(s) that he or she feels will be relevant and inspirational to the space and provide the associated budget in creating such a piece or pieces.
VI. Overall Project Description: As a recipient of this Call, Oatey Co. invites you to prepare and submit your proposal for qualifications. Oatey Co. seeks to commission an artwork or artworks for their world headquarters lobby which will be located in a newly constructed building at 20600 Emerald Parkway, Cleveland, Ohio (I-480 and Grayton Road). The artwork will be sited on a prominent wall in the general lobby of the building’s main entrance. The primary audience will be comprised of Oatey Co. employees, visitors, customers, stakeholders and the general public. Neither this Call nor your response to it shall constitute a binding agreement. Oatey Co. reserves the right to terminate the Project or modify the Project’s objectives, schedule, or activities at any time during the Project.
VII. Project Intent: To commission artwork(s) that will express Oatey Co.’s vision, brand and values in a vibrant/thought provoking 2D and/or 3D dimensional form (all media will be considered), which in turn will inform and captivate the audience’s attention in the main lobby of the corporate headquarters. Phrases, words to consider for potential direction include, but are not limited to: Innovation; progress; plumbing; choice of plumbing professionals; deliver quality, build trust, improve lives; professional plumbing industry; the choice of plumbing professionals; individual components being part of a whole; people; pipes, Oatey products; continuous forward motion; collaboration; reliability; confidence; dynamism; the celebration of energy, community, and sustainability; sense of discovery. The creative use of Oatey Co.’s products, brand colors, or industry materials will be considered. The artists’ willingness to learn about Oatey Co., its products and history, and to see how this may play a role in the artwork will also be considered. The artwork must be durable, low maintenance, and appropriate for the location, taking into consideration people walking through the space and the natural daylighting of the building lobby. The art must express itself naturally without the need for lighting enhancements.
VIII. Artwork Location Plans: Renderings of the general entrance main lobby with dimensions are provided. The depth of the piece along the wall should not be physically obtrusive in such as a way as to impede or cause traffic flow to be disrupted in the lobby area. Wall measurement: 19’ 8.5” wide X 8’ tall.
Deadline for Proposals: No later than 5:00 pm on April 18, 2016
Notification to three finalists: No later than May 2,, 2016
Artist(s) presentations and final selection: By June 6, 2016
Final revisions/designs due: No later than August 1, 2016
Fabrication and installation: August – September 2016
Open House/Unveiling of installation: October, 2016 (date tbd)
Oatey Co. reserves the right to change the project timeline.
The cost of Submittal preparation to this Call, future requests for proposal, or related solicitations, oral presentations, attendance at proposal meetings, site visits, contract negotiation, and all other costs incurred by the Respondent prior to the execution of a contract is the sole responsibility of the Respondent. In no event, shall Oatey Co. be responsible for reimbursement of these direct or any related costs.

A. Applicant Background & Credentials:
Letter of Interest. The letter should be no more than two pages long and should explain the artist’s interest in the project. Detail experience with projects of similar scale and scope, including a demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with public and/or private agencies, and engage in a successful public review process.
Describe your proposed approach for fabrication and installation of the concept/artwork you are envisioning for this project.
Provide a general project timeline indicating key activities and milestones for all activities leading up to and including the installation of the artwork.
