CALL FOR ARTISTS
Thanks Betty!
This one’s for you

DEADLINE: Midnight, Oct. 2, 2017,

Summit Artspace Exhibition Dates: October 20 – November 18, 2017

Betty Taylor was truly an activist on behalf of local artists.

Her passion for artists and their voice in the community inspired many artists to pursue their calling. Her connection, vision and persistence is linked to Summit Artspace’s history and success. Her dream for a gallery for all local artists which began with the Artists of Rubber City, was realized when she helped found Summit Artspace in 2002. She also was one of the original members of Artists of Rubber City, founded in 1978, and the Alliance for the Visual Arts, founded in 2001. Artists of Rubber City remains housed in Summit Artspace and operates the Box Gallery and the Little Box Gallery.

Betty, who passed away earlier this year, and her late husband, Howard, were honored with the “Arts Alive!” Volunteer Award by the Akron Area Arts Alliance (now Summit Artspace) in 2003.

Summit Artspace is proud to honor this champion for the arts and local artists with a tribute exhibition in the main gallery from October 20 to November 14.

SUBMITTING ART

The show is open to any artist who was influenced and inspired by Betty.

You may have been in class with her at University of Akron, exhibited your work in a show at Summit Artspace, heard and been moved by her persistence and determination, or worked alongside her in her many community causes.

As part of the submission for inclusion, artists will be asked to include their relationship with Betty and give a brief statement how her dedication and vision inspired them. Entries can be current or past work. Please share your story and memories of Betty as we honor her with a show in her name.

Betty’s own personal pieces will be displayed as part of the exhibition.
