GENERAL SUMMARY
Director of Marketing and Communications

Job Description
The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the organization’s marketing and communication strategies and activities to create awareness of the organization, its mission, and programs. The Director of Marketing and Communications reports to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with other departments to ensure that marketing and communication efforts are aligned with the goals and brand standards of Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. The Director of Marketing and Communications is also responsible for implementing the organization’s internal communication programs.

ESSENTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Develops and implements comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to create awareness of organization’s mission, programming, and events
Develops the marketing budget
Responsible for daily maintenance of social media pages, including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram ensuring brand consistency and engaging messaging.
Responsible for ad buying for social media (Facebook) and ad buying for print, digital, radio and TV campaigns
Writes press releases, key messaging, blog posts, internal communications materials and more
Creates and maintains media lists and executes media pitches, coordinates media interviews and tracks and report media coverage
PR and social media content development; identifies news and other story angles, writes engaging topics for social media efforts
Creates and distributes promotional materials, including brochures, signage, print and digital ads
Plans and implements promotional campaigns for events and excursions
Manages the website and works with other departments to improve the user experience and develop strategies for improved messaging and promotion
Manages email marketing initiatives
Works closely with other departments to define organizational goals
Seeks new opportunities outside of the state to promote tourism to CVSR
Attends events and workshops to build relationships with other companies, agencies, and the public to drive new sales
Undertakes continuous analysis of competitive environment and consumer trends
Manages Google Analytics and research ways to improve SEO and flow of traffic on website
Tracks and monitors website activity and the impact upon sales
Establishes measurable goals and sets key performance indicators to assess organizational awareness, track customer experience and website traffic
Tracks customer experience and retention via weekly surveys
Develops the organization’s internal communications tools and programs

REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or another related field
2-5 years of experience in communications/PR in a PR agency environment or as part of a communications team for a corporation or non-profit
Hands on experience with social media including ad buying
Skills include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe and CMS knowledge and WordPress
Exceptional written and oral communication skills
Excellent presentation skills
Self-motivated, with proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
Experience working in a team environment
Ability to work individually and as part of a team
Flexible work schedule and limited overtime as required

JOB DETAILS

• Full-time
Monday through Friday with occasional weekends and evenings

SALARY
From $65,000.00 per year

CVSR’s mission is to provideeducational, recreational and heritage railroad experiences and provide alternative transportation to and within Cuyahoga Valley National Park and the Ohio & Erie Canalway.
