Summit Artspace, located at 140 E. Market Street in downtown Akron, houses a gallery, artist studios, a business center for arts organizations, and event/performance spaces. Summit Artspace is joint project of the Akron Area Arts Alliance and The County of Summit.

EXHIBITIONS MANAGER, Summit Artspace, Akron Ohio

Summit Artspace is seeking a creative and collaborative manager to coordinate, plan and install art exhibitions in traditional gallery settings and other areas throughout Summit Artspace. The Exhibitions Manager will help implement strategic initiatives that showcase quality community art and expand collaborative opportunities with local and regional artists and arts partners. The Exhibitions Manager will see beyond the traditional gallery setting and strategize ways to transform all of Summit Artspace into a creative space to display, promote and sell a wide variety of community art.

Key duties:

  • Plan and provide creative direction to annual exhibition series in the Summit Artspace Gallery.
  • Identify new and collaborative exhibition and curatorial opportunities that engage diverse audiences and extend more opportunities to create community art displays in throughout Summit Artspace.
  • Assist with marketing, communications and fundraising initiatives related to exhibits.
  • Oversee submission review process and communicate with artists and curators applying for shows.
  • Coordinate installation and removal functions related to all curated and juried exhibitions.
  • Work with Programs Manager to create educational, visual and performing arts experiences related to exhibitions.
  • Work with staff and Community Engagement Committee to establish targets and monitor attendance, participation and visitor satisfaction.
  • Work with gallery sitter volunteers to provide high quality visitor experience.

  • Ability to deal with deadlines and multiple demands simultaneously.
  • Managing execution by monitoring progress, keeping others accountable, and remaining ahead of deadlines.
  • Anticipating and troubleshooting problems; seeking and offering solutions.

Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree required. Three to five years of experience in program or events planning, education or related field, preferably with a nonprofit organization. Experience working with volunteers highly desirable. Must have track record of success in presenting visual arts exhibitions.

Job Requirements: Must hold valid driver’s license and must pass pre-employment background check. This is a part-time position that requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends and holidays as necessary. Minimal travel required.

Salary: $15.00 per hour
