The National Center for Choreography – Akron (NCCAkron) is an exciting new organization established to support the research and development of new work in dance.  Housed at The University of Akron’s School of Dance, Theater and Arts Administration, NCCAkron will host approximately 6 choreographic residencies in dance each year.  Each residency will provide diverse choreographers selected through a competitive curatorial process with time, studio space, access to production technology and financial resources to support the creation of new work.  As an independent 501(c)(3) established with lead funding from the Knight Foundation following a 2-year feasibility study, NCCAkron will operate with a staff of 3 on an annual budget of approximately $500,000.

The Founding Executive & Artistic Director will serve as the chief executive of NCCAkron, report to a Board of Directors and be responsible for all aspects of the operations.  His/her areas of responsibility will include fundraising, curatorial direction, development of strategic partnerships, community relations, public relations and communications, residency coordination and general administration, including human resource and financial management.   He/she will bring visionary leadership, creative thinking, an entrepreneurial spirit and a drive to foster new works in dance to the Center during its formative years.

The successful candidate will have a strong knowledge of choreographic process in dance as well as the national dance ecosystem.  He/she will also have a minimum of 10 years of experience in non-profit management and fundraising, ideally including work in a higher education setting or in support of dance residencies.  Qualified candidates will have a proven track record of visionary, collaborative leadership; strategic resource development; public and community relations; strategic partnership development; organizational operations; and short and long term planning.

The salary is commensurate with background and experience.  Based in Akron, OH, this is a full-time position with benefits, including health insurance, relocation assistance, and travel/R&D allowance.

Interested candidates should email a cover letter of an expression of interest and resume to Kristy Edmunds, Chair, Search Committee, at:  EmploymentNCCAkron@gmail.com.  The application deadline is May 1, 2016 or until filled.
