Recognizing that significant change occurs when artists are engaged in community development, the Akron Black Artist Guild (ABAG) will commission three (3) local, Black artists to create original works that reimagine and investigate the intersection of creativity in non-art sectors in Akron communities.

Through the Reimagine Fellowship, artists will be supported by Fellowship staff as well as a mentoring organization based in Kenmore, West Akron, or East Akron neighborhoods. Each participating organization has an ongoing and existing practice of engagement and service to their communities.

 

Artists selected for the fellowship will:

Create original works that reimagine and investigate the intersection of creativity in non-art sectors in Akron communities
Collaborate with neighborhood residents and existing local organizations in that neighborhood
Propel co-creative action at neighborhood scale in partnership with community leaders, local organizations, and residents
ABAG, in partnership with community organizations, will work with selected artists to engage in a listening and learning tour of the neighborhoods, the population served, and the staff of partnering organizations who work in the space.

 

Fellowship Duration

February 2022 - June 2022

 

Compensation

$4,000 stipend

$2,000 for materials

 

Selection Process

Selections will be made by a panel of jurors based on the strength of the application.
