The Cleveland Museum of Natural History (CMNH), founded in 1920, is located in the heart of University Circle, five miles east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. Considered one of the finest institutions of its kind in North America, the Museum offers an incredible visitor experience, attracting roughly 275,000 visitors a year. There are more than 140 public education programs and over 80,000 students served annually. The Museum employs about 140 people. Building on its strong foundation of excellence in education and research, the Museum is poised to transform itself. The Museum will invite and engage a broader audience in the exploration of science and the natural world by revolutionizing the way it presents natural history. The Museum has currently launched a capital campaign to support a dramatic renovation and expansion of its facilities and exhibits. This ambitious plan will position the Museum to play a leading role in regional and national efforts to improve science education and increase scientific literacy.

The Museum is seeking a dynamic, creative, and energetic individual who is passionate about the Museum and its mission; exhibits strong project management and organizational skills; is looking for new challenges; and enjoys working in an enthusiastic and fast-paced environment.

Job Summary: Experience Associates will work at the Museums’ welcome desk, within the gallery space, processing admissions to the museum, helping build relationships with our visitors, and ensuring our patrons have the best information to make the most of their Museum visit.  The Experience Associate will see that all museum patrons experience high levels of customer service and encounter a welcoming and helpful atmosphere and will facilitate experiences to enhance our patron’s visit.  Experience Associate will act as a concierge answering questions, using the ticketing system to process admissions and membership sales while protecting the integrity of the Museum’s database, and will provide assistance to patrons as needed by recognizing and anticipating their needs, wants, and expectations.

Experience Associate’s responsibilities (including but not limited to):

Serve as the primary associate to The Cleveland Museum of Natural History, welcoming visitors, and providing orientation & information about exhibits, events, and programs.
Performs admissions desk duties from opening to closing.
Act as a gallery attendant by providing information, wayfinding, and advocating for Museum initiatives in gallery space.
Facilitates stations or activities to enhance the visitor experience.
Provides information about our museum, daily activities/shows, and membership programs
Answers incoming calls, directing inquiries to the appropriate person or handling the caller’s request
Anticipates the arrival of visitor experience volunteers and helps coordinate their shift duties. Relieves them for breaks and acts as their go-to for questions or assistance
Scans visitor’s tickets and provides them with the appropriate welcome experience based on their ticket
Sells admission and memberships when appropriate
Serves as a greeter for self-guided groups, giving the group the code of conduct, maps, and any other information they will need
Ensures tidy front desk with general housekeeping and re-stocking marketing materials
Enters sales & group check-ins into the Altru database
Provides information about and sells/renews memberships
Sells event tickets and provides information about upcoming events and programs
Handles cash & credit card transactions correctly
Represents The Cleveland Museum of Natural History to the public, volunteers, members, and donors in a positive, professional manner
Check and respond in a timely manner to incoming emails
Stay current on policy and procedure changes
Stay current on programs, events, and education programs happening

Qualifications: Candidates should possess a high school diploma.  1+ years of experience in a customer service environment is required. Very strong people skills and oral communication skills are essential.  The ability to provide exceptional customer service and gather visitor information is critical to the position.  This person must be able to work flexible schedules, including weekends and some evenings, as required.

Work Schedule: Evening and weekend work is required.

Starting Pay: $15-$16
