Core classes are based on age and are meant to be repeated. Following the session each student will receive a feedback form from their teacher advising them on what classes to advance to. Classes end with a final presentation on the last day class May 4, 2019.

Class Scholarships
Partial-scholarship support is available for classes at Weathervane due to the generous support from the community. To apply, please fill out a scholarship application or call  (330) 836-2626 to request an application (via the mail). All scholarship requests must be received no later than two weeks prior to the start of class.

 

Spring Theatre Academy 2019
March 2nd - May 4th 
 
-ACTING- 

Imagine THAT! Hundred Acre Wood
Ages 3 to 5
Saturdays 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
Tuition: $150
Explore the Hundred Acre Woods and bring some of our favorite characters to life! This class will foster cognitive development while students bring elements of this classic story to life through fun and interactive activities. Go on a quest for honey like Pooh or bounce around like Tigger this spring in Imagine THAT!
 
Introduction to Acting I: Silverstein Stories 
Ages 5 to 8
Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Tuition: $175
Bring stories to life and learn theatre skills through creative play! Students will study story structure, explore character development, and work as a group while gaining self-confidence using the famous poetry from Shel Silverstein. Students will learn the basics of theatre, memorizing lines, and performing on the stage.

Introduction to Acting II: Take the Stage
Ages 8 to 11
Saturdays 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Tuition: $175
Empower and challenge your child to take the stage. This class is designed for beginning actors, teaching them how to create the actor’s tool box. Students will learn skills in movement, vocal color, script interpretation, and improvisation. Watch as your child gains confidence, self-esteem and a new creative outlet!
 
Introduction to Acting III:Find your Voice
Ages 11 to 15
Saturdays 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Tuition: $180
This class is designed as an introduction to theatre. Students will tackle improvisation and scripted work in this fun and interactive class. The instructor will lead the students to discover how to portray a character with voice and movement while learning how to interpret the playwright’s textual clues. Join in the fun and learn through theatrical play!

Improv: Part I
Ages 8 to 11
Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Tuition: $175
Explore the elements of improvisation and experience the power of play with this introductory improv   workshop.  Students will focus on various games and exercises that encourage trust, communication,   active listening, character development, and team work.  Join us on the last day as our class puts on a   show.  You never know what will happen...that's why it's improv!

Improv: Part II
Ages 11 to 17
Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Tuition: $175
Continue to learn, grow, and build upon your improv skills! This class is designed with the same objectives as Improv I but for older students. Students will continue to explore the building blocks of improv, making clear character choices, and working as an ensemble to develop strong story lines.

Intermediate Acting
Ages 9 to 15
Saturdays 11:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Tuition: $180
This class is designed for the child who has participated in Introduction to Acting class and was recommended to continue to the Intermediate Acting class, or has equivalent experience on stage. Students will be encouraged to expand on their performance skills to create characters with depth and motivation, work as an ensemble and individually, and use their basic knowledge of theatre vocabulary to interpret the essentials of a scene.  Each student will leave the class with new skills and ready to take on their next performance!

 

-MUSICAL THEATRE –

Musical Theatre, Act One
Ages 5 to 7
Saturdays 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Tuition: $185 
Develop you singing, dancing, and acting skills in Musical Theatre, Act One! Sing and dance your way through some Broadway standards. Students will work on musical theatre skills through group singing, creative and choreographed movement, rhythm notation, and sight reading. Our Musical Theatre, Act One class takes our entire core curriculum and puts it to music with an experienced Instructor and Accompanist. Move over Kristin Chenoweth and Matthew Morrison, here comes the next Broadway star! 
Introduction to Acting is recommended before taking this class. 

Musical Theatre, Act Two
Ages 8 to 12
Saturdays 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.
Tuition: $190
Sing, dance and perform in Musical Theatre, Act Two. Designed with the same objectives as Musical Theatre, Act One, but for older and more experienced students, this class challenges experienced students through more complex choreography and solo singing. Learn and explore in this class designed to inspire young actors taught by an experienced instructor and accompanist. You will be flapping, pirouetting and box-stepping your way onto center stage!
Introduction to Acting is recommended before taking this class. 

 

- DANCE -

Introduction to Broadway Dance Styles
Ages 5 to 8
Saturdays 12:45 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
Tuition: $175
Learn the basics of Tap and Jazz techniques, vocabulary, and styles used in your favorite Broadway shows in this beginner level class. This class will allow each student to grow as a dancer and bring them one step and tap forward to becoming a triple threat. Jazz and Tap shoes required.

Broadway Dance Styles I
Ages 8 to 15
Saturdays 9:00 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.
Tuition: $180
Weathervane’s Broadway dance classes are designed with the actor in mind. Students can continue to build on their dance technique, performance skills, and knowledge of different dance styles outside the traditional studio setting. In this class, students will focus on Jazz and Tap techniques and styles used in popular Broadway shows. From Fosse to Tune, we are going to move! Jazz and Tap shoes required.

 

-FOR PARENTS-

Dancing for the Stage Parent
FREE if child is registered for a Spring class 
10:30-11:15 a.m.
Nothing to do when your child is in class? Come enjoy a dance class! In this class our stage parents will learn many combinations exploring basic techniques, various choreographers, and different dance styles. This is a fun way to stay in shape and learn something new! No prior experience required, grab your sneakers and come dance with us!

 

-DESIGN-

ART of Theatre: Stage Make-up
Ages 10 to 15
Saturdays 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Tuition: $175
Explore the art of theatre through stage make-up! Each week students will learn different stage make-up techniques from simple needs for the stage to creating detailed characters. The final project will be to do the stage make-up for a Spring Theatre Academy class to wear during final presentations

Arts & Culture Inclusion Council Presents: Representation Matters- Photography and Ad Spend

In this virtual workshop, Rob Greer, Tyron Hoisten, and Elizabeth Tipton will discuss why representation matters in advertising and content creation, drawing on their recent experience participating in ArtsNow’s SEEN initiative. This panel will be moderated by a member of the Arts & Culture Inclusion Council.

Who should attend?
Nonprofit and for-profit leadership and marketing/communication professionals interested in learning about SEEN and participating in a conversation about the importance of authenticity and representation in our work.
