“Whiskey tastings are a great way to try a variety of new bourbons and whiskeys at a reasonable price and discover the nuances of each pour,” said Valerie Renner, associate director of programming, media and marketing at the Akron Civic Theater. “In the tradition of the Civic’s annual Pints & Pies Craft Beer & Pizza Festival and Wine, Cheese and Chocolate, Darling! tasting events, A Whiskey Deemed Worthy will invite our guests into a wider world of the whiskey experience.”
A good whiskey-tasting experience engages all the senses. Tasters usually begin with observing the color of the whiskey. The darker the whiskey, usually the richer the taste. Next, move to its aromas and flavors, looking for notes that range from spices, sweets and grains to woods, fruits and florals. “Mouthfeel” also plays an important role: is this whiskey hot, viscous, dry, creamy, chewy? Even the sense of sound comes into play as the taste of a delicious whiskey elicits the universal expression of satisfaction: “Ahhhh!”
Attendees will receive a program booklet at the event that walks them through the tasting experience and provides background information on all of the featured spirits.
“Never cry over spilt milk,” advised Bret Maverick of the classic Western TV series. “It could’ve been whiskey.”
