Dakota Mace, visiting artist in Art History and Print Media and Photography, will be giving a public artist talk on Friday, Dec. 3 at the Center for the Visual Arts at noon. The lecture will take place in room 165 and is open to the public.
Have you ever wondered where the Indigenous-inspired designs at Urban Outfitters come from? Artist Dakota Mace uses her work to explore the unethical use of traditional Indigenous designs for non-Native clothing. Through weaving, photography, papermaking, and bead work, Mace’s art explores Diné (Navajo) worldviews that align or bump up against the marketplace. This lecture, sponsored by the School of Art at Kent State University, looks at the influence of Mace’s work and the interconnectedness of visual traditions across the Americas.
