Children's Concert Society presents The University of Akron Steel Drum Band

The University of Akron Steel Drum Band

Grades Four through Eight
Curriculum Connection: History, Science
Our Concert Hall Series will begin with THE UNIVERSITY OF AKRON STEEL DRUM BAND performing for students grades four the eight. The University’s steel drum band was founded by Dr. Larry Snider in 1980. At that time, it was one of only three colleges in the United States to have a steel drum ensemble. It has now become an award winning program and one of the nation’s oldest collegiate panorama-style steel bands. This ensemble of percussion majors are dedicated to performing the musical art form of Trinidad and to educating people about the history of the pan (steel drum). The band is pleased to announce that Liam Teague of Trinidad will, again, join them for these concerts as their guest artist.
