Creative Connections: Family Art Night - Intro to Sumi-e Ink Painting

Creative Connections is a new monthly program featuring a unique, introductory art class available to our surrounding community and made possible by Barberton Community Foundation.

Japanese ink painting, or sumi-e, is the embodiment of Japanese aesthetics. Using just simple black ink and carefully curated white space, sumi-e captures the timeless beauty and complexity of the natural world.  Use bamboo brushes and black ink to learn and create a painting of bamboo with leaves using two techniques, lily pads with and without flower blooms and koi fish.  We will also learn to combine these elements into a pleasing composition and if time allows, add watercolor!  This is an introductory class and no skills or knowledge of the subject are necessary to participate.  The class is all about having fun while being creative and learning a new skill.

First 20 paid participants will each receive a Sumi-e brush and ink kit in a beautiful display box with all you need to get started.  The instructor will be supplying good quality paper as well as practice newsprint for the class and to take home.

Class Fee: $5 per participant, $15 cap per *family.  Pre-registration is ... view more »
