Gallery celebrates new book illustrated by Leandra Drumm with music and food truck.
A new music and art collaboration brings to life the history of the Ohio and Erie Canal. Laurie Caner of folk band Hey Mavis and Akron artist Leandra Drumm have finished their CD and book project, Silver Ribbon Dream. It is a 28-page hardcover book with a 10-song CD. The book features 10 beautiful illustrations by Drumm, which interpret the stories behind the original songs. The project was funded by John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Singer/songwriter Caner became inspired to learn about the canal while the Hey Mavis band was artists-in-residence at the Cuyahoga Valley National Park a decade ago. Author and illustrator will be signing books from 1-4 pm Saturday, June 22 at Don Drumm Studios and Gallery, 437 Crouse St. in Akron. Drumm’s illustration reprints will be available and the band Hey Mavis will perform. The Square Scullery food truck will be on site.
