GroundWorks DanceTheater at Allen Theatre

GroundWorks DanceTheater celebrates new beginnings during its 20^th Anniversary Season and marks the company’s next chapter with its Fall 2018 Dance Series. The upcoming season features dynamic new talent, the revivals of two critically-acclaimed works, as well as a world premiere by Founding Artistic Director David Shimotakahara, who will debut his 43^rd new work for the company.

GroundWorks 2018 Fall Series features the world premiere of a dynamic new project created in partnership with the Akron Art Museum and funded by a Knight Foundation Arts Challenge award. The Knight Arts Challenge supports artistic innovation in audience engagement. GroundWorks Artistic Director David Shimotakahara was given permission to work in response to an important piece from the Museum’s permanent collection, the magnificent Dzesi II by internationally-renowned artist El Anatsui. As part of the project, GroundWorks will connect audiences to performances of its new premiere work through its acclaimed Action/Reaction program, helping people understand and experience art forms across disciplines in new ways.

GroundWorks is also delighted to bring back audience favorites LUNA and Hindsight this fall. Hindsight, Guest Artist Lynne Taylor-Corbett’s homage to Chrissie Hynde and first staged by GroundWorks in 2011, explores the sounds and rhythms of legendary English-American rock band The Pretenders. LUNA, choreographed by Shimotakahara in 2012, explores the nature of desire, it’s deeply held and often conflicting motivations.
