I’m Black, Y’all!

Friday Aug. 9, 2019 at 8:00pm
Akron Civic Theatre

Here is a play about what it’s like to be Black in America today. Look at the world through the experiences of Imani Smith, a journalist writing for her local newspaper, the Doveland Beacon Journal. She’s willing to do anything for her paper, and she loves the art of journalism; but what happens when she’s not recognized for her talents? What happens if people continue to judge her and limit her because of her skin? What happens when a young man in Imani’s city loses his life, and it seems like hardly any tears have been shed? Can you imagine being among people who have never met you and having to worry about what they think of you, bearing the weight and image of your race on your shoulders? If so, you have some idea of what it’s like to be Black.

Please note that this is a cabaret performance. The audience is on stage with the performers. Seating is limited.
