International Art Exhibit & Opening Reception

Experience the intensity of contemporary art in more than 100 works by artists from the Middle East that will be on display at Summit Artspace’s Transition Gallery.

Summit Artspace in conjunction with artist Jamila Alhaib and international sculptor Abd Alrahman Almohammad is proud to present the first International Art Exhibit in Akron. The show is entitled, The Other Face. There will be 100 works from artists representing the countries of the Middle East including Egypt, Lebanon, Morocca and the United Arab Emirates. Alhaib is a graduate of The University of Akron. A painter, she focuses on abstracts using acrylics. She has had paintings shown at the Cleveland Museum of Art and the GAR Foundation Gallery. Alrahman has pieces at the Vatican and on display in Paris and London.

The show is free and open to the public.

The exhibit opens on Thursday, May 5, with an artist reception beginning at 4 pm until 7 pm in the Summit Artspace Gallery. The show runs through April 7, 2016.

Saturday, May 7, 2016, noon – 9 pm with the Akron Artwalk

  • "The Other Face" International Art Exhibit offers a world view of work by artists living in the Middle East and Africa. The 100+ works will be shown May 5-7, 2016 in the Transition Gallery of Summit Artspace in Akron. Show creator artist Jamila Alhaib who now lives in Portage Lakes talks about the art, the countries represented and her hope of sharing understanding of cultures through the artists' eyes. She credits international sculptor Abd Alrahman Almohammed with helping her make the show possible.
