Karuna Duet @ Cuyahoga Valley National Park Concert Series

Presented by Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park at Happy Days Lodge, Peninsula OH

Sep 26 2019
Karuna Duet @ Cuyahoga Valley National Park Concert Series

Karuna Duet brings the duo’s unique and evolved rhythm languages to the fore and inspires through spirited dialogue.

What began as a chance encounter between two 14-year-old aspiring percussionists in a downtown Chicago drum shop has taken Hamid Drake and Adam Rudolph around the world over decades of shared creative journeys — including a European tour with Don Cherry and projects with Yusef Lateef, Pharaoh Sanders, Hassan Hakmoun, Hu: Vibrational and Adam Rudoph’s Moving Pictures.

Now, after 40 years of making music together, this is their first tour as a duet. Their new Karuna Duet brings the duo’s unique and evolved rhythm languages to the fore and inspires through spirited dialogue. The name Karuna reflects their ongoing research into the connection of inner life to musical expression and speaks to the idea of creative action as a gesture of compassion.
