Make Art Not Waste

Presented by ReWorks at Summit Artspace, Akron OH

Nov 07 2015
Make Art Not Waste

Twelve artists have been selected to participate in this inaugural event that challenges artists to utilize discarded latex paint to create works of art. The public is invited to an opening November 7 at Summit Artspace in the Project Gallery beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Artists will be provided access to studio space for a three-day period — November 2 – 4 — and the completed works will be displayed at an opening to be held November 7 at Summit Artspace in the Project Gallery as part of the November Downtown Akron Artwalk.

By supporting artists who work with recycled materials, ReWorks, Summit County’s solid waste management authority hopes to encourage people to reduce, reuse, and recycle materials and promote new ways of thinking about art and the environment.

The works of art will be available to purchase at the opening and proceeds will be split evenly between the artist and ReWorks. ReWorks will use its share of the proceeds for educating the public on potential reuses of latex paint and how to safely prepare it for proper disposal.
