Megan Mayer: Work-in-Progress Showing

Presented by The National Center for Choreography at the University of Akron at Guzzetta Hall - University of Akron, Akron OH

Megan Mayer: Work-in-Progress Showing

Join NCCAkron Resident Artist Megan Mayer (Minneapolis, MN) and collaborators for a showing of her work ‘(FW) Redux,’ exploring anxiety, gender, nostalgia, and Dusty Springfield. The showing will be followed by ice cream.

Join NCCAkron at Guzzetta Hall (studio 391) for a FREE work-in-progress showing of choreographer Megan Mayer’s work (FW) Redux. This work asks: how do we deal with anxiety in troubled times? How do we persist when we’re all broken? What can we contribute during this time of racial/political/artistic unease? Who gets to claim and define gender?

(FW) Redux is an extension of Mayer’s 2016 work This is supposed to be my fertile window, a dance inspired by the duality of singer Dusty Springfield’s stage fright and powerful voice.

This event will be from 6pm-7:30pm, and will be followed by an ice cream social.

A 2016 McKnight Foundation Choreographic Fellow, Megan Mayer is an artist working with choreography, dance, experimental video and photography. She obsesses over minimalism, mimicry, tenderness, wry humor, empathy, fake bad timing and exacting musicality.
