The "Akron Sound" Pop-up Museum Fundraiser

In response to a British subject asking to describe Akron, Mark Mothersbaugh of Devo fame responded. After his answer Akron was known throughout the world as “The Liverpool of the Americas.”

From the mid-70s throughout the 80s Akron was churning out so much great music that the movement was to be known as the “Akron Sound.” Bands such as The Rubber City Rebels, Tin Huey, Devo, The Bizarros and Chrissie Hynde had been signed by major record labels and there was a second wave of Akron Bands impossible to categorize were ROCKIN’ the underground music scene. The bands Trudee & The Trendsetters, The Action, Unit 5, the F-Models The Walking Clampetts, The Bettys and many others played incredible original music in the hopes of being signed as the previous bands did. Their legacies have continued to inspire the musicians throughout the 90s and on into today.
