Shelby Olive Denton is a singer, songwriter, and future music educator. She is currently in her undergraduate study of Choral/General Music Education at Kent State University with a minor in Jazz Studies. Shelby is one half of the nationally renowned folk duo, Recipe of Life. They released an EP in 2012, “Simplicity,” and recently released their debut full-length album, “The Secret Ingredient,” in 2014. They are currently in the works of producing their second album. She has opened for national acts such as Danielle Ate the Sandwich, Glass Harp, Tori Harris, and more. When Shelby isn’t singing, she is a saxophone player, ukulele player, piano player, and a newfound bass player. She has sung with the Kent State University Women’s Chorus, the Kent State University Chorus, and the Kent State University Nova Jazz Singers. She is also the featured vocalist for the Kent State University Big Band. She is the current President of the Kent State Chapter of the Ohio Collegiate Music Education Association (OCMEA) and is also a member of Delta Omicron Music Honors Fraternity. Shelby is the current assistant coach of Stow-Munroe Falls High School’s nationally recognized Speech and Debate Team. She looks forward to finishing her degree in Music Education and plans to pursue songwriting with Recipe of Life full-time upon graduation.
