The DeVos Institute of Arts Management at the University of Maryland is finalizing next session’s enrollment for its free online course for arts managers, students, and arts enthusiasts around the globe. The course is designed for those who are interested in learning how to support thriving arts and cultural organizations regardless of art form, geography, or size.

Taught by DeVos Institute Chairman Michael M. Kaiser and President Brett Egan, the six-week course introduces participants to a management philosophy called The Cycle, the Institute’s theory of organizational activity that prioritizes investment in great art.

If you wish to follow a six-week schedule, the next session will run March 6 – April 14, 2017 with enrollment closing March 11. See the below weekly breakdown of topics to be covered:

Week 1: Introduction to The Cycle
Week 2: Artistic Planning
Weeks 3-4: Marketing (Institutional and Programmatic)
Week 5: Family and Board
Week 6: Fundraising and Course Summary

All content is also available on demand for self-paced learning. New sessions begin each month.

WHAT PARTICIPANTS ARE SAYING

Students of the course have responded positively to the opportunity to learn first-hand what it takes to run a successful cultural operation:

“The bite-sized format was easy to do during a busy work week, and there were great resources to use such as the downloadable worksheets and blog post links. I also appreciated the case studies of a variety of organizations. I am encouraging all of my colleagues to take this course!”

“This course challenged me to think more long-term, or five years from now, and not from year to year.”

“Clear, concise, lots of practical examples. A real eye-opener.”
