In celebrating the beauty and significance of the Cuyahoga Valley, the Peninsula Art Academy presents
Plein Air Peninsula 2017 Fall Colors . This year’s second Plein Air event will celebrate the peak colors of
the autumn and will again take place in the Village of Peninsula and the surrounding Cuyahoga Valley
National Park.
Plein Air Peninsula 2017 will be held October 13, 14, and 15, 2017. A juried exhibit of many of the
works created during the competition will be on display and available for sale at the Peninsula Art
Academy, 1600 W. Mill Street, Peninsula, October 20th through November 12th, 2017 .
Awards will be presented at the artists’ reception on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 6-9pm at the
Peninsula Art Academy.
Judging and Prizes: Awards will include: Best of show: $750.00, Second place: $500.00, Third place:
$250.00, Honorable Mentions, and the People’s Choice award.
This year we are pleased to welcome Judge David Rankin , S.A.A., A.F.C., O.W.S

Eligibility:
The Competition is open to artists, 18 years of age and over.

Criteria:
Artwork must be created and finished on site at one of our identified locations in the true plein
air style. Styles may range from realism to abstract, and must be in keeping with the impromptu style of
plein air. Artwork must be original two-dimensional art in any medium (other than photography or
computer-generated work). Canvas/paper plus frame shall be less than or equal to 28” in any one
direction . All pieces must be ready for hanging with picture hanging wire attached. Each artist may
submit two pieces of artwork. Artwork must be created during the competition which begins at 8am on
Friday, October 13, 2017 and must be submitted to Peninsula Art Academy no later than 5:00pm on
Sunday, October 15, 2017.
Exhibition Venue: Works created during the competition will be juried and those selected will be
displayed at the Peninsula Art Academy from October 20 through November 12, 2017. All artwork
displayed will be for sale with 60% to the artist and 40% to the Peninsula Art Academy while displayed at
the Peninsula Art Academy. Works created during Plein Air may also be featured on.
Registration: Artists who wish to participate in Plein Air must: 1) complete the attached registration
form and pay a $45.00 registration fee; and, 2) bring any blank surfaces that they believe that they may
use to create artwork for the competition to be stamped to the Peninsula Art Academy prior to painting.
The registration fee is payable to the Peninsula Art Academy and may be paid by check or credit card.
Artists are encouraged to bring as many canvases/papers as they wish to create during the competition.

Submission:

Artists must deliver their completed, stamped artwork to the Peninsula Art Academy no
later than 5pm on Sunday, October 15, 2017 . Artists may deliver up to 2 completed works to be juried.
Finished works must be framed, with picture hanging wire attached. Gallery wrap is discouraged.
Painting Locations: Will be identified on a map that artists receive at registration.

The Peninsula Art Academy is a nonprofit, charitable organization formed to promote the visual and
musical arts through education and outreach to persons of all ages and abilities. The Academy is
located in the historic village of Peninsula in the heart of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. The
Peninsula Art Academy holds classes and sponsors exhibits in many different types of visual arts
including glass blowing and fusing, metalsmithing, fiber arts and weaving, painting and drawing,
sculpting and jewelry-making. The Academy also offers hands-on learning opportunities in the musical
arts through its sponsorship of Folk Night and Blues Night which encourage musicians of all abilities to
play and learn from each other.
