Neighborhoods are as unique as the artists who tell their stories through photographs. Each neighborhood is made unique by its people, its businesses and its history. To honor and celebrate the 24 Akron neighborhoods, photography highlighting any of the 24 neighborhoods in Akron will be considered for inclusion in the exhibit simply titled 24.

Photographs may reflect what makes the neighborhood distinctive, represents living in a neighborhood or intimately reflects passion, pride, hope or despair as captured by the artist.  The images can be historical or new work generated specifically for the show. Historical work must be represented by the original artist.  All submissions need to include the address represented in the photograph.

Eligibility:
The exhibition is open to artists residing in or attending school in the following Ohio counties:Summit, Cuyahoga, Medina, Stark and Portage. Unfortunately, if you do not live in or attend school in one of these counties, we are unable to consider your work.

ENTRY FEE: $15

Jurying will be done via digital image. Artists may submit one artwork piece per submission for consideration, and may submit up to three high quality digital images (.jpg, .pdf, .tiff. .png) of the artwork entered. Artists may submit up to three entries for consideration in the show, but each entry must be submitted separately. The images must accurately represent the work and accepted work must be professionally presented for exhibition (see notes below).

Notification of the juror’s decision will be made via email by midnight on Monday, April 2, 2018. Accepted work must be delivered to Summit Artspace on Monday, April 9, 2018, during the hours of 10 am – 2 pm and 4 pm – 7 pm.

NOTES

Size and Weight Limits:

• Final installation size of 2-D work cannot exceed 4′ (48″) wide by 6′ (72″) high.

• 3-D work must not exceed 39″ in diameter, nor may any single component of the work exceed 50 pounds.

All work must be identified (labelled) with the artist name and contact information when delivered.

Accepted work must be delivered ready to install. 2-D works must be appropriately wired, no saw tooth hangers.

Summit Artspace has a limited number of pedestals available, however the artist may have to provide any special display fixtures required.

Suitability of works which must be suspended, hung in windows, requiring a power source, are especially heavy, are very large, or have other special installation requirements will be determined on an individual basis.

Professional installation will be provided by Summit Artspace. Care will be taken when handling and displaying all artwork, however Summit Artspace waives responsibility for either damage or loss of artwork.

ABOUT OUR JUROR, SHANE WYNN

Shane Wynn is a local photojournalist and fine art photographer specializing in portraiture and visual storytelling. She regularly contributes to ten local publications including Akronlife, The Devil Strip, Edible Cleveland, cleveland.com, Crain’s Business and the Akron Art Museum’s VIEW Magazine. She was graduated from the University of Akron with a BFA in 1999 and started her small business, Shane Wynn Studio. Shane won first prize for portraiture from the Cleveland Press Club in 2017. Her photography was part of a collaborative booklet and web site entitled You Had Me at Akron, created for Akron’s visitor’s bureau, both of which were awarded the first place RUBY Award in 2016 by the Ohio Travel Association. She has twice been selected as a winner of the Knight Arts Challenge. Her completed 2015 series for Knight was featured nationwide on the home page of aol.com. In 2017 her photography for the Akron Art Museum’s Mark Mothersbaugh installation was featured in Rolling Stone Magazine. In 2016 Wynn won the juried award and second place 2D award for her photography in the Akron Art Prize. She has also been recognized with several local ADDY awards. Shane, in collaboration with Downtown Akron Partnership, created akronstock.com, a site featuring hundreds of free stock images available to anyone for use in promoting the city.  Shane has been photographing Akron for 22 years.  She is currently developing multiple portrait series that reflect her belief in equal rights and opportunity by turning the spotlight towards marginalized segments of Akron’s population.
