 VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR, Akron, Ohio

Summit County Historical Society is seeking an energetic people-person as Volunteer Coordinator to schedule, coordinate and work with volunteers on our historic properties and throughout the community. The Volunteer Coordinator will help implement strategic initiatives that showcase the role of the Society in our mission to preserve and interpret local history while educating others.

Key Duties:

  • Assist the Society staff to coordinate and schedule volunteer jobs and opportunities
  • Recruit new volunteers and orient them to the organization
  • Record volunteer activities and input hours into database system
  • Oversee volunteer recognition and prepare for an annual event to highlight their accomplishments/time/talent
  • Plan and assist staff in providing educational enhancement programs such as trainings and field trips

  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Building effective relationships internally and externally; working effectively on teams
  • Ability to deal with deadlines and multiple demands simultaneously
  • Anticipating and troubleshooting problems; seeking and offering solutions
  • Competent computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, database entry and email

Education and experience: Bachelor’s degree preferred with three to five years of experience in a nonprofit setting working with volunteers and other staff. Must have track record of success in volunteer recruiting and retention.

Job Requirements: Must hold valid driver’s license and must pass pre-employment background check. This is a part-time position (20-35 hours) that requires the ability to work a flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, holidays and special events as necessary. Minimal travel required.

Salary: This position has a range of $10 – $14 per hour
