ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

A. Reports to the Facilities Manager.
B. In the absence of the Facilities Manager will report to the Chief of Staff.

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Facilities Manager and Chief of Staff, performs tasks to assure that the physical appearance of the Museum is at its best at all times and that property and equipment is in good repair. Contributes to the smooth running of the Museum. Provides addition support during scheduled events including: art openings, fundraisers, concerts, weddings, and Education Programming. This position is classified as non-exempt.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Performs all housekeeping tasks as scheduled, including:

  • cleaning of restrooms and work areas,
  • mopping floors,
  • vacuuming carpets,
  • dusting,
  • collecting trash,
  • washing walls and windows,
  • picking up trash on Museum’s outside property,
  • watering landscaped areas,
  • sweeping or hosing down sidewalks and shoveling snow,
  • salting sculpture garden terrace areas and parking lots,
  • any other job assigned.

2. Assists with other building maintenance tasks as scheduled or requested, including:

  • receiving and forwarding deliveries,
  • floor stripping and waxing, buffing,
  • cleaning up landscaping in spring and fall,
  • moving office furniture,
  • setting up for special events,
  • cleaning up after special events,
  • any other job assigned.

3. To the extent training and abilities allow, assist in the accomplishment of special maintenance projects involving:

  • building and equipment repair,
  • painting,
  • landscaping,
  • any other maintenance function.

4. In absence of supervisor, responds to general staff requests for assistance with small cleaning, maintenance, or lifting jobs; for example, replacing of light bulbs, cleaning up spills, lifting boxes of publications, etc.

5. Performs other duties as may be prescribed by Events Manager and Security Manager

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School graduate or G.E.D. Prior experience in janitorial, landscaping, or building maintenance preferred but not required.

SKILLS AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

Reliable, punctual, and trustworthy, able to act reasonably in emergencies, perform tasks as instructed, cooperate well with co-workers, and present a clean and neat appearance. Must have a clean criminal background report, no drug usage. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Nonsmoker preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Standing, walking, squatting, bending, stooping, lifting heavy items of up to 50 pounds.

Climbing ladders, using a lift to access high areas, walking up and down stairs, using both arms 
in repetitive motion to sweep, shovel, or clean surfaces.

Manual dexterity – grasping, fingering, twisting, gripping, use of both hands in coordinated manner to use hand and power tools and equipment.

Hearing/Speaking – must be able to hear normal speech, and to communicate with others. 
High noise level at times due to operation of machines and vehicles. Communicate using
two-way radio.

Vision – must be able to see areas to be cleaned, and read written instructions. Must be able to tolerate  working in bright daylight and at night.

Work environment – may be noisy, dusty, hot, cold, wet, or unsanitary.
