Design of Terrazzo Art at Akron-Canton Airport

Design of Terrazzo Art at Akron-Canton Airport

 Green, OH, 44720

CALL FOR ARTISTS – REQUEST FOR QUALIFICATIONS

The Akron-Canton Airport (“CAK”) is inviting local artists to submit their
qualifications to receive a $5,000 commission to consult on the design of a new
terrazzo floor. This invitation is open to professional artists at least 18 years of
age who reside in the greater Akron-Canton area.

A selection process conforming to FAA Advisory Circular guidelines will be
utilized that will include some of the following criteria: 1) artist’s previous
experience; 2) quality of artist’s work; 3) artist’s capability to meet schedules and
work within budget; and 4) the artist’s ability to collaborate with Airport staff, the
contractor, and subcontractors.

The selected artist will work alongside the Airport, contractor, and architect as a
design consultant to help deliver a locally inspired design for an approximate
2,700 square foot section of new terrazzo flooring in the Airport’s atrium area.
The new terrazzo floor will replace existing terrazzo flooring, located just beyond
the security checkpoint. The new terrazzo floor is part of the Airport’s Gate
Replacement Project and the construction budget for this scope of work is
roughly $150,000. A terrazzo floor has a useful life of 30-40 years and is a
structurally-sound to handle luggage, carts, and other items. The Airport
anticipates construction of the new terrazzo floor to be completed in October
2020.

If there is interest, please submit a request for a detailed application package
from Kristie Gates kgates@akroncantonairport.com or (330) 499-4059. To be
considered for the project, interested artists or artist teams must submit their
qualifications electronically by 1PM EST, June 5, 2020.
