ReWorks, the solid waste management authority for Summit County, is looking for poets to apply for our 2021 cREate Works project titled “ReVerse Waste.” There is no cost to apply and the five selected poets will each receive a stipend of $150 for their efforts.

Five poets will be selected from those that apply and only the five selected poets will be asked to create a poem based on the concept of waste reduction. This is a juried review and the work poets submit for review should be of their existing work.

From ReWorks’ perspective, “waste reduction means practices which reduce, avoid, or eliminate the generation of solid waste at the source and not merely the shifting of a waste stream from one medium to another medium.” *

Why is this a topic near our hearts at ReWorks? As a solid waste management authority we are charged with the goal of reducing and/or diverting materials from landfills.

The program’s goal is to encourage communication through art to challenge us to reflect on how we manage the materials that surround us on a day to day basis.
