WORK SCHEDULE: 2-3 days per week. Schedule set in advance with opportunities for occasional weekend and special event hours as needed. As a gathering place for children and families, where play inspires exploration, discovery, and problem solving, the Akron Children’s Museum’s educational programs are designed to support and inspire a desire for lifelong learning!

POSITION: Museum Educator- This position is primarily responsible for delivering PreK – Grade 3 programming with an emphasis on STEAM and Inquiry Based Learning. There are additional opportunities to assist with other museum programming for K-8 students, including but not limited to summer camps, special events, weekend public programming, and community outreach events.

DUTIES: Deliver interactive PreK- Grade 3 educational programs that provide opportunities for children to learn Ohio’s learning standards in English/Language Arts, Music, and Mathematics with an inquiry-based approach to learning through play and exploration. Deliver public Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) – based programs for walk-in visitation during the weekend. This includes assisting with program development, training volunteers, materials acquisition, program delivery, tracking visitation and clean-up/recovery. Deliver public programs and activities at community and various outreach events. This may require some local travel utilizing the Museum’s cargo van. This may include loading and unloading, setting up and taking down equipment and materials for such events. Assist with the preparation of developmentally appropriate materials, presentations and activities which reflect the needs and interest of children and adults participating in programs presented by the Akron Children’s Museum. Periodically walk through the museum floor and straighten and sanitize as needed. Assist in upkeep of the exhibits, Maker Space, Art Studio, and other spaces. Maintain supplies and organization of consumable materials. Communicate with children, teachers, parents and staff members effectively, truthfully and respectfully. Maintain safe, attractive, and efficient office, storage, classroom, and exhibit spaces. Adhere to all ACM protocol, policies and best practices to ensure high-quality, content-approved programs and presentations. Participate in evaluations and professional development to improve self and Museum programs Other duties as assigned.

Helpful Attributes A sense of wonder and curiosity about the world. The desire to play, have fun, move around, and be active. Experience teaching or instructing young children, in either formal or informal settings. Experience in museum interpretation is a plus, however not required. A willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of our community. Flexibility, a desire to work in a team environment and a willingness to accept challenges, as well as an interest in the mission and vision of the Akron Children’s Museum.
