Gadzooks! – Nature and Art with Brian Sutphin and Sam Sapp
Camp runs 5 consecutive days.
Age group: 6-8 yrs.
Monday, June 13th, 2016 to Friday, June 17th 2016

Class size is limited to 10.

All art materials are provided. Please bring a lunch. You may want to bring sun protection (sunscreen, hat, long sleeve shirt etc.), rain gear, umbrella, insect repellant, Epi Pen, other liquid refreshments.

Students will paint, draw or sculpt, everyday, after exploring the natural world that Peninsula offers and learning about the animals and their habitat. Much of the class will take place outdoors, even some of the art projects! Every day students will learn through experiencing nature, hiking, treasure hunts and more, while we make art related to our nature lessons and we end the week with a good, old fashioned BBQ!!

Proz*ink!TM Meditative Doodling with Denise Hart-Krall

Zen Doodling: It’s cool!  It’s hip!  It’s the hottest thing since pen & ink and it’s fun for kids too! Doodle your cares away! Bring a friend (or two!) and join us for this relaxing Social Artworking™ experience!  New tangle patterns and techniques will be explored each class with pointers on unleashing your own creative designs, and ideas for using non-paper foundations.   No experience required and experienced tanglers are welcome!  Supplies and light refreshments will be provided!  Feel free to bring your own favorite tangling supplies!   Private parties are also available.

Art from Nature with Denise Hart-Krall

Campers will need to supply 1 white T-shirt for creating a plant print on. All other art materials and bottled drinking are provided at no additional charge. Art from Nature: Kids love nature art! In this class, we will explore several fun projects using elements found in nature. By the end of the week, your camper will have created their own plant-print T-shirt, explored several variations of rock painting, created marble swirl stationary from cast paper they make themselves, and formed a hand-shaped garden planter.

Social Artworking Jr. for kids! Snacks and Canvas with Denise Hart-Krall

This class is a kid’s version of the popular Social Artworking guided painting classes, but offering healthy juice alternatives and snacks instead. Spark your child’s creativity through the summer months! Bring your child and join us for a fun and relaxing morning of guided painting with friends!  Participants will paint with acrylic on canvas and will complete a new design each week. No artistic experience is necessary and all painting materials will be provided for this two-hour artistic excursion.

Parents and caregivers are encouraged to register with their participating child!

 

Plan a Private Snacks and Canvas Party!
Private Snacks and Canvas Classes may also be organized for birthday parties and group fun!  Bring your child’s party to the Art Academy and we’ll make sure your child’s special day is a day to remember!  This special kid’s version of Social Artworking is sure to be the life of the party as children are guided through an age appropriate group painting project. Children will paint with acrylic on canvas and take home a completed painting and fond memories.  We’ll provide a selection of simplified designs for you to choose from in advance, or we can design a special theme appropriate project from your ideas!  All art supplies are provided, so bring your refreshments and artistic spirit, and we’ll provide the fun!  Advanced registration required.

Found Object Assemblage with Gwen Waight
This is a one day workshop.
Open to students of all ages.
Saturday April 23, 2016

Minimum class size is 4 students.

Please bring your found items, any or all! Gwen will provide all the other materials that you will need. Also bring your lunch and beverage or you can order from area restaurants.

Assemblage: Turn that trash into art.  Making art from found objects. Exploring assemblage in both 2D and 3D format.  Gwen has been involved in the arts all her life. Her father is a potter and she worked in his studio from a very young age to adulthood.  A graduate from the University of Iowa with a degree in art, studying sculpture and ceramics she continued to pursue art. She finds her greatest inspiration in creating found object assemblages.  Always looking at everyday objects and trash in an artful way is what she does.

Exploring Land Art with Brian Sutphin and Denise Hart-Krall

Land Art is a creative and fun art form that combines a love of nature with creative sculpture. Land Artists create organic, temporary works that seem to appear randomly along paths, in streams, on hillsides, anywhere really! In this class, students will explore various methods and techniques for constructing land art including design, construction, and placement ideas. You will impart your own perception of movement and unusual visual angles as you create random acts of art for public enjoyment! Students will use found leaves, twigs, stones, and other natural objects to create their compositions. Class will include some short distance hiking along the beautiful Tow Path Trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. We will celebrate at the end of an excellent week with a good old fashioned BBQ! Caregiver/child teams are encouraged to enroll!

Fiber Arts: Each day Carol will teach a new fiber techniques that kids can take home and add to, we will also try out a loom and other weaving equipment. Very hands on and a great way to try new materials, to become more dexterous and to understand more about the construction of things. Carol will also teach about fiber techniques around the world in this class.

Enameling: An ancient art, is fun, immediate and can be made into many things. It’s basically the melting of colored glass onto metal. Come and explore it! Carol has been enameling since 1968 and as a contemporary artist and teacher, can lead you into the enameling world to explore your ideas. During the 5 days of class, we will make several small dishes or bowls, or other items of your choosing.

Cartooning: Create your own cartoon character from head to toe. You will be able to design one frame or an entire comic strip. Drama or comedy; it’s your choice. One thing is for certain – you will have a ton of fun designing and coloring your very own comic creation.

Graffitti: Who needs the side of a train to paint on??? You will create your works of graffiti art on your choice of a T- shirt or a funky wood cut out. Bring your imagination and an idea of a style, words or pictures that you would like to use to create your graffiti image. Your creative options are unlimited and the sky is the limit.

Metal, Glass, and Stone: Students will explore various methods and techniques. Students will create projects that incorporate metal, fused glass, and stone. Projects will be a sculpture, mosaic, and glass on a stick. Learn how to work with these amazing materials and make a finished piece of art. We may work outside as weather permits us.
