Interested in supporting our community’s art presence?  Help share art with others by being a gallery sitter volunteer at Summit Artspace.

What do gallery sitter volunteers actually do?  Welcome visitors as they enter the gallery.  Answer very general questions (i.e. when’s the next exhbition, hours of the building, etc.) Make sure the art stays in the room : )

How often do gallery sitter volunteers volunteer? Generally they will volunteer 1-2 times per exhibition.  Each time a gallery sitter volunteers is usually for 3.5 hours.  For example, come in on a Thursday from 3:30pm to 7pm.  A volunteer generally will help out 4-6 times a year.

Days/Times to volunteer:

  • Thursdays 12 to 3:30 and 3:30 to 7pm
  • Fridays 12 to 3:30 and 3:30 to 7pm
  • Saturdays 12 to 5

We offer:  free wifi, snacks and drinks.  If you need volunteer hours for school – we are happy to provide documentation/letters as well for you.

Other non-tangible/hard to define benefits: Sometimes just being around people leads to opportunities.  Some gallery sitters have met gallery owners and consequently shown their work at other venues.  Talking with people has also led to sitters teaching classes to earn some extra cash.  A few were actually working on their own work and it led to sales.  Some have talked their way into our hearts and then had a show of their own work here.  Basically – a gallery sitter can be whatever you’d like it to be.  You can simply sit here and have great conversations OR use it as a springboard to your career.  Either way is fine with us!
