Tower of Power

Presented by City of Akron, Community Events Division at Lock 3 Akron

TOWER OF POWER
For close to 50 years, Tower of Power has been creating their own kind of soul music. Since 1968, Tower of Power has delivered their unique brand of music to their fans, appearing before sold out crowds as they tour the world each year. Tower’s sound can be hard to categorize, but the band’s leader and founding member, Emilio Castillo, has labeled their sound as “Urban Soul Music.”

Tower’s rhythm section lays down a groove like no other band. The band’s horn driven sound is unique, and the way they approach everything, from writing and arranging to mixing and performing, is totally their own. Combine all of that with an outstanding lead vocalist and you have one of the most dynamic groups of musicians to ever hit the stage.

GET ON UP
In 2009, Get On Up was born out of native Ohio corn fed soul. They are talented musicians who perform the greatest Funk music from the 1960’s through today. They do it with energy, style and class, while sharing the fun with the crowd, in one performance after another. Get On Up is now an eight-piece powerhouse of new and classic funk and R&B music, and is firmly positioned as the premier Funk authority in northeast Ohio. The band enjoys playing more than sixty great funk and R&B songs and the list is still growing. A typical four-hour show features songs from great artists and groups such as James Brown, Tower of Power, The Average White Band, Rick James, Wild Cherry, Earth Wind and Fire, The Ohio Players, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake, Prince, and many, many more. When people hear Get On Up, they get up, dance, drink, eat, and celebrate. The band keeps the dance floor jumping all night long.
