Akron Songwriters Festival - Songwriters in the Round with Joe Vitale Jr., Chris Allen and Bob Robb

Akron Songwriters Festival - Songwriters in the Round with Joe Vitale Jr., Chris Allen and Bob Robb

Presented by Akron Civic Theatre at Akron Civic Theatre

Join us for this night of song with three local songwriters sharing their talents and music with you!

Joe Vitale Jr. – For the past decade, Joe has been clawing his way through the jungle-like terrain of the music scene with his blend of classic rock and modern rock, and a sweet dash of “signature Joe”. This isn’t cookie-cutter music from a sound-a-like artist. With a message of rockin’ positivity with his debut album “Dancing with Shadows” and it’s fist-pumping rejuvenation you can hear yourself sing along to his tunes.

Chris Allen – Chris Allen is an acclaimed songwriter from Cleveland, OH, and front man for the alt-rocking band Rosavelt. His band Rosavelt garnered much local and national acclaim in the late 90’s with their 4 releases, including the Sony Red Eye national release of The Story of Gasoline which received 4 stars in Paste Magazine. From 2006 to present Allen has also released 4 solo albums, including the latest Everything Changes But the Rodeo (2014), available on vinyl, CD and all digital outlets.  The album was produced by Don Dixon (REM, Smithereens), it was recorded in upstate New York and features Tom Prebish (Rosavelt/The Ohio City Singers) on bass and Mark Stepro (Ben Kweller/Jakob Dylan/Gavin DeGraw/Keith Urban) on drums.

Bob Robb – Singer/songwriter, poet and multi-instrumentalist Bob Robb is a merchant mariner on the Great Lakes, from which he draws much inspiration for his music. His CDs include “Raw” and “Bosun Bob – Please! Don’t Feed the Seagulls!” along with his collection for children called “Mambo on the Moon,” all of which are available on iTunes. Operating as a “one-man band,” he plays all of the instruments and does all of the vocals on his recordings. His musical career began in the 1960s. In the late 60s and early 70s, he was a band member of Canadian singer/songwriting legend and high-profile Native American activist Willie Dunn. Three of the songs Bob recorded with Dunn are featured on the 2015 Grammy-nominated recording, Native North America, Vol. 1. Choosing to “ship out” in the late 1970s, he has worked as a mariner ever since, traveling the world to earn his living while he continues to pursue a singer/songwriter’s life. He has served as a session musician on dozens of other artists’ recordings; has been commissioned to write songs for public events; and continues to perform original material at pubs and festivals.

Supported in part by funding from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation Arts Challenge.
