63rd Scholastic Composers Contest

63rd Scholastic Composers Contest

Presented by Children's Concert Society at Unknown

Children’s Concert Society is pleased to announce our 63rd Annual Scholastic Composers Contest.  This program is the fulfillment of the dream of Ralph Gillman, then chairman of Akron Public School’s Music Department, to stimulate creativity and musical literacy in our school-aged children.  CCS’s Scholastic Composer’s contest is one of the oldest in the country and there is no entry fee for the students.

The Contest is open to all students in grades K-12 in Summit County and surrounding areas, whether in public, private, parochial, charter or home schools.  The deadline this year for submitting compositions is February 5, 2016.  Entries will again be judged by a panel of Music Composition faculty from the University of Akron, School of Music.  Ratings of first, second, third or honorable mention will be assigned by the panel.  Each composition will be given a critique as well, enabling the young composer to understand strengths and weaknesses.  Each student is also given a ribbon of participation.  Composers whose compositions merit a first-place rating will present their works at a Premiere Performance to be held Tuesday, April 19, 2016, 6:00 pm at the Portage Country Club.
