Collaboration Reception: Overlooked (Wynn) & Curated Storefront

at Baxter's Bar

Join us for a wine and appetizer reception at Baxter’s Bar, 205 South Main St., located across the street from the O’Neil’s Building from 6:00-8:00pm and celebrate the opening of Shane Wynn’s photography series, entitled #Overlooked and three new art exhibitions in downtown storefronts presented by #CuratedStorefront.

Both projects, #Overlooked, Shane Wynn’s portrait series of empowered women in the Akron community set against the backdrop of underutilized spaces in the city and #CuratedStorefront, a series of ongoing exhibitions activating underutilized downtown storefronts with multimedia art installations conceptualized by Richard Rogers, are 2015 Knight Arts Challenge winners.

The three new storefronts, the O’Neil’s Building, the Main Akron LIbrary, and Cascade Plaza, are located along Main Street in downtown Akron and are all within walking and biking distance to one another.

Showcased in the north end of the O’Neil’s Building, is the portrait photography of Shane Wynn and paintings by John Sokol. John Sokol is an established artist with many of his works featured in private and public collections, including the Akron Art Museum.
The O’Neil’s Building is located on Main Street next to Lock 3. Artwork can be viewed from the sidewalk along Main Street. Access inside the building is not required.

Featured in the lower level of the Main Akron Library near the TechZone@Main is a Twitter #-interactive installation by Markus and Margarita Benitez-Vogl, which can be experienced from both inside the library and out, day and night. #i<3Akron (i heart Akron) to activate the lights and see how your own digital interactions can affect the public’s viewing experience. Both professors, Markus and Margarita explore new media techniques and question contemporary issues concerning technology.

Exhibited in the lower windows of Cascade Plaza in the center of town, look down the slope and just off of the brick-patterned starred sidewalk for paintings by UA Myers School of Art student, Nathan Prebonick. Nathan’s work correlates with this installation site, as his paintings deal with notions of flatness, reflection, transparency, and the grid. He draws attention to the under-used space and beautifies it by adding color and sequential rhythm through arrangement and form in his abstract paintings.
