“Thread & Mud” & “As Potent as a Charm” Opening Reception The BOX Gallery

Presented by Summit Artspace at Unknown

Both shows will be on display from Dec. 4 – 31, 2015 with an opening reception on Friday, Dec. 4 from  5-8 pm in The  BOX Gallery showrooms on the third floor of Summit Artspace.

“The BOX Gallery is thrilled to be able to host such a great variety of local artists. These shows give us a wonderful opportunity to showcase fine craft and long-standing Akron artists like Joan Colbert,” said BOX Gallery organizer, Nancy Richards-Davis.

Thread & Mud is juried by Michael Martell and Claudia Zeber-Martell of Zeber-Martell Gallery and Clay Studio in downtown Akron.  The Artists of Rubber City is excited to present a sampling of the great fine craft this area has to offer, guided by the expertise of the Martells.  Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place entries.

Award-winning Akron artist Joan Colbert will feature an ongoing print series in the small box gallery,As Potent as a Charm. She says her series “explores the malevolent side of familiar plants in a collection of black and white linoleum block prints. Although the concept is botanical, allusions to dark tales and malfeasance hint at a narrative within each visual representation.”

The BOX Gallery will also be open on Saturday, Dec. 5 for the Akron Artwalk from 5 – 9 pm and on Thursday, Dec. 31 from 5 – 9 pm for the First Night celebration in addition to its regular hours.  Admission is FREE and open to the public.
