Goosetown: The Devil's Milk, Part 2

Goosetown: The Devil's Milk, Part 2

Presented by New World Performance Laboratory (NWPL) at Balch Street Theatre

Goosetown: The Devil’s Milk, Part 2,  book, music, and lyrics by Akron native J.T. Buck, tells the story of a man drawn from the hills of West Virginia in 1913 by the promises of a booming Akron. He lands in a violent but exhilarating swirl of people and ambitions where the lines of race, class, and ideology are blurred as fortunes are easily gained and lost. Arriving at the train depot and walking the streets, he finds a place to sleep in the arms of a passionate and mysterious woman in the mostly German neighborhood of Goosetown. But Goosetown itself is a strange place, built defiantly atop a hidden river flowing with secrets that refuse to be buried. At the rubber factory, under the watchful eye of the new company clock tower looming over the city, he’s caught between the greed of a powerful industry tycoon and the righteous passion of a growing labor uprising. Add to all of it the disruptions of a chaotic freeze/thaw weather cycle and a priest with very worldly desires and a city on the brink of…something. But what will it be? A rapture? An apocalypse? Faced with such odds, how can a simple man rise from the dirt to live a good, honest life?

Directed by New World Performance Lab Co-Artistic Director James Slowiak, actors include NWPL company member Rosilyn Jentner, and guest artists Jay Sigler, John Dayo Aliya, Mark Seven, Alex Nine, Laura Stitt, and Jennifer Woda. Costume design is by Inda Blatch-Geib, lighting design by Chris Hariasz and scenic design and technical direction by Kirsten Williams.
